Swimming

Swimming is part of the school curriculum and at Westbourne we are very lucky to have our own outdoor heated pool where the children have more time to enhance their swimming techniques.

When does swim season run:

Swim season starts in the second half of the summer term after May half term, running up until the end of term in July - usually a season of 6-7 weeks.

Who Swims:

All year groups get to swim and are allocated 2 swim sessions per week.

Swimming Kit:

On swim days the children will require;

  • swimming costume (one piece-no bikinis) or swimming shorts
  • towel
  • swimming hat
  • crocs or flipflops (no sandals)
  • goggles are optional (no masks)
  • If the weather is hot, please ensure children have sun cream applied before they come to school.

Pool Rules

  • No earrings can be worn in the pool.  If your child is unable to remove them themselves please ensure that they are not worn on swimming days – we are not allowed to remove or replace earrings. Please do not arrange for ears to be pierced between half term and the swim season.
  • Please check your child’s feet for verruca’s.  If they have a verruca they can still swim but they must wear a swim sock.
  • We are unable to lend kit to children so please ensure that they have their full kit in school on their swimming days.
  • All children are required to wear a swimming hat, as hair can easily block the pool filters.

Payment:

We do ask for a one-off contribution towards the swimming lessons and the upkeep of the swimming pool.

  • £30 for one pupil (equates to £2.14 a session)
  • £40 for two pupils in the same family
  • £50 for three pupils in the same family

Whilst contributions are voluntary, it does put a strain on the school's budget if the majority of costs are not covered. We may have to review the situation regarding the pool if contributions are not forthcoming. The school has a sympathetic approach to those having financial difficulties, so please speak, in confidence, to Mrs Evans or Mrs Baverstock if you are having difficulty making the contribution.  If your child is currently in receipt of free school meals, you can claim exemption from these contributions under the school's Charging and Remission Policy.
